Last Day of the Intersession
I can't believe today was our last class of intersession. It was so glad to have the class with you guys and Dr. Rivera. I not only learned a lot, but also could be confident to participate by this class. Dr. Rivera was really a good professor. She always opened her ears to the students and was so understanding to all of us. Even though it was a short semester, I felt so familiar with all you guys, because there were only six people in the class. I really hope all of us can pass this class and meet again in EN110 class! Good luck to everyone.
Farewell
Well today was our last day of class. I have faith in all of us passing this course because we all did a great job. I also thank Dr.Rivera for being so kind to teach us in this short period of time. Dr.Rivera, you are a brilliant professor. As for all of us, take good care of yourselves and stay in school. We all deserve the best in life.
So Long!
Good evening everyone! Can you believe that the intersession is over, and this is our last post for this blog? I am very happy that I enrolled in EN100 for the fall because if I had not, then I would never have met the most most awesome batch of people. I like the fact that we were a really small class, for it enabled us to get to know each other easily. Who knew that in just four weeks we would accomplish so much in EN100. We knew what we signed up for, and we were willing to take on the challenge of a fast-paced course. That proves that we can do anything! I encourage all of you to continue to do well in your future endeavors. Special thank you to the woman that taught us all we need to know, Dr. Matilda Rivera. It was a fun journey, you taught us many things, and made everything very easy and convenient for us. I wish you all the best in the future and hopefully I will see you around! Keep in touch!

Last Day of Classes!
Yabba dabba doo! Intersession is over! I am excited to see what my grade is for this class and also to see what else comes flying at me in the future English courses UOG has to offer. Dr. Rivera did a wonderful job at explaining the lesson and just teaching the course overall. I am glad I chose to take it up with her especially since all the information taught is much needed. It was great meeting you all in this short month and I hope we have each other in future classes. You all can just send a friend request to me on facebook because I would like it if we all kept in touch. Remember, learning is still on going!
"It's accomplished"
Hey everybody It has been done. I am proud of each and everyone of you guys. It was my honor to be classmates with you guys. I will never forget this intersession. It was very hectic, but at least we had a very good experience with it. I would like to thank our great professor, Dr. Rivera for an outstanding job for helping us succeed. I am very happy and we should all feel joyful. I am happy and thankful for this intersession. I would like to wish you all good luck and remember to be happy throughout your journey.
Last day
Hey Guys, today is our last day as we all know. However it will not be our last time seeing each other because we'll still see each other around campus. I hope we all did well in the project and for our final grades. I hope we all do good in our future classes.
DONE!
Wow! Tomorrow is our last day of EN100! Can you believe that we have come this far in just four weeks! Today, we went over the Handbook in our Pages and Paragraph's textbook. Going through it with the class seemed like we were back in high school learning about the parts of speech. It is good to go back to the basics of English so that we can use it to its full extent now that we are in a higher level of education. As you know there is the noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, adjective, preposition, interjection, and conjunction. The parts of speech should not pose as a stranger to us because we use it in our writing everyday. The lesson was very fast paced, yet we all should be used to that now. I learned that most of you are doing the special projects in place of the final exam test. I hope that it is going well for you all! As for me, I finished making up test number four and on top of that I took the final exam test. I found the tests not as hard as I thought it would be. I hope I did well! See you all tomorrow!

"Its almost done"
Today, we went over the parts of speech. It was a lesson that was just to recover us from the past. It went by quickly and smoothly. In my head, all I am thinking about is how fast the intercession was. It was my first time to take it and be able to take responsibilty for it as well. I did not expect it to be very fast, but I guessed that was a sursprise for me this year. It is January once again and another chapter is close to an end. It just seems as if time is going by very quickly and I still have many things to accomplish. I know that each of use did a great job because we all did our best and our teacher is very exceptional to help us strive for a goals this intercession. This day was just far too quick.
Last Online Session
Intercession is already at an end. Today's online session had a lot of requirements that needed to be met. Defining what a definition is was interesting. Learning that there are two types of definitions, the simple definitions and the extended definitions, both in which have different types of techniques to them. Keeping in mind that no two words mean the same, sources still have to be cited when defining a word exactly as someone or something else did.
The Last Online Class
I can’t believe that today is our last online class! Today’s online class was also quite busy. We covered chapter 14 and 15, which is about Definition and Argument. Both subjects were really interesting and understandable. There are two types of definitions, simple definition, and extended definition. The argument is persuasion on a topic about which reasonable people disagree. I really thanks to Dr. Rivera that she gave opportunity to recover my poor grades at final exam. I was really relieved when she mentioned about the options. I hope all of you do a great job in final exam! See you tomorrow.
Last Online Session
Hey everyone, today would be our last online session and I hope everyone answered the forums and comment because it is a big chunk of our grade. Anyways, I have decided on what project I'll be working on. What have you guys decided on? Whatever it is you chose, I wish you all the best of luck. I am going to miss this small class of ours because we all have something in common and that is bravery. We are going to do great in our next english class because of the information we have gained in such a short time. See you all in class tomorrow.

2 MORE DAYS!
Good evening everyone, I know that everyone received an email from Dr. Rivera regarding our current standing in this class. I hope that everyone did well! I'm surprised at the outcome of my grades, I hope that along with the final test and other assignments it will go up. Unfortunately, I missed our class meeting yesterday due to misinterpretation of the calendar of events and other circumstances. I see that we are given options for our final exam. All of them seem quite challenging, especially the 40 page short story. I think I will stick to taking the actual final exam covering tests 1-4 and chapters 12-16. What are you guys planning to do? Studying the previous tests and chapters also poses as a challenge to me because it combines everything we learned from day one, but I am up for the task! Happy studying everyone, I'll see you tomorrow!
Test Today & Thank Goodness We Have Options For Our Final Exam
Today we did our test on chapters 9 through 11. I hope we all did well on the test. We got chapters 5 to 8 test results back. I honestly can say that I wasn't disappointed at my grade because I had so much trouble when we took the test. I felt overwhelmed. I also thank Dr.Rivera for being so understanding to all of use and how we have all encountered what we call test anxiety. I felt so relief when she gave us many options to substitute our final exam. I will give it all my best to this project because it is worth a lot of points.Today we went over chapter 13. What I found very useful in this chapter would be the subject by subject and point by point outline. I found it very helpful to apply to my writing assignments. Oh, by the way what kind of chips do you guys like? I don't want to bring something that you guys don't like. Well it has been a tough week since the start and now it is going to be our last. Good luck to everyone on passing this course and God bless you all.

Last Week of Intersession :D
Wow! I can't believe this session is coming to an end! Three more days left and then we are off to pursue higher endeavors pertaining english! Today is the last day for our online moodle session. We had a lot of topics to cover! First we had cause and effect which deals with reasons and results. Causes and effects is based on our natural thought processes and how we imagine things will turn out. This type of writing is also persuasive. We also had to discuss about establishing groups through classification. Classification is explaining your thesis by putting people, places, things, or ideas into groups or classes based on their characteristics. I find classification the easiest form of writing over all the other types we learned. Today, we went over writing definition and argument papers. Definitions consist of synonyms, phrases, or sentences to describe the definition of a word. Another way to write to persuade is through an argument. An argument is a persuasion on a topic about which reasonable people disagree, and is often controversial.
The moodle session today was very interesting. I learned so much information. Cause and effect essays are concerned with why things happen (causes) and what happens as a result (effects). Cause and effect is a common method of organizing and discussing ideas. This type of essay is a very specific one as it deals with the Classification of organizing the logical connections in it. The author of a classification essay is supposed to organize or sort the arguments of the essay in categories. An important thing to mention is that the categories are to fully resemble the essence of the essay’s topic.
Week 4! I can't wait to get this intersession over with.
Well today is the beginning of the last week and tomorrow we have our test on chapters 9 to 11. Oh man. We had a lot of forums to do online. From today's lesson, I learned about classification and what it deals with. The same goes with cause and effect. Well guys, tomorrow we will be seeing each other because we'll be taking test #4. Wish you guys good luck and study those chapters so that we can pass.

Jan. 09. 2012
Today we covered quite a lot on the online class, which includes chapter 11, and 12. Cause and Effect chapter was interesting, and the discussion questions were easy to comprehend. Cause and Effect is useful when we make important decisions. I liked how Richard gathered information by using the listing technique in his writing process. In the next chapter, I studied about writing classification essay. We use classification when we need to separate things that are similar to more than one unit. I liked how Boris organized his ideas by using clustering in his writing process worksheet. Both chapter was interesting, but I was little confused what’s different between classification and analysis by division.
Time Is Running Out
I can't believe this. Look at how time goes by so fast. Last week we took test 1, 2, and 3. I'm pretty sure we all pass because we all studied. We have so much to do in our last week and we are going to be busy. We learned a whole lot of information in 4 weeks. We all should stay on our positive side and keep our heads up high. We got this down. Why? Because we were brave enough to sign up for a fast pace class with lots of assignments and test to do. Time don't wait for nobody.
Wow~
I can’t believe that we already have only a week left until the class over. The intersession class is going by really fast. We learned a lot of things that help us improve our writing abilities. I think next week will be also very busy because of our tests and online classes. I hope everyone learned many things, as me, in this class so far. Also, let’s not forget that our tests are coming! Let’s prepare hard for our tests. J
01. 06. 2012 Test 2 and 3
It was very hard time for me to take test 2 and 3. I found that they were more challenging than the test 1. There were much more write-out answers than single-answers. However, the tests let me know if I understand all the things in Chapter 5, 6, 7, and 8 well. The tests are already over, so I’m trying not to think about that. We still have two more tests, so it would be better to prepare for those rather than regret for the before tests. I hope everyone will have a good result.
Friday, January 6, 2012
The week is going by so fast and next thing you know, all of us will be on our way out of intercession. I came to realize how important time is. It is filled with memories of love, joy, laughter, pain, sorrow, anger, forgiveness, emotions all entertained, some internalized, some expressed, and some exploded. We can spend our time wisely, or worthlessly, we can squander it, or invest it, we can enjoy it, or abuse it, we can live it, or retreat from it, but it moves on regardless.Unconsciously, we make the decision daily as to how we’re going to spend time, let’s spend it wisely creating memories that will benefit you and those you’ll touch.
End of Week 3
Hello everyone,
We had a pretty killer class today! Two test in one class meeting equals to a sad Hannah. Luckily for me I surprisingly did really well in the first test, but I'm not sure about how I did on this test. I hope that you all did well too! I found that today's tests were more challenging, I wish I had more time to study. It didn't help that I also blacked out at times, where I would completely forget what I am writing about. I hate that when it happens. I can't believe that we're almost done with intersession, we have only one week left! It really did go by in a flash, I feel like it's still the first week. Well I hope that everyone has a good and safe weekend! Don't forget to study for test number 4! I'm sure we all will do well! Let's not give up, we're almost done! :)
Tests #2 and #3
Today's class was epic even though it was very quiet. The two tests were really brought to my attention. I thought it was a lot more intense than the first test. This only reminds me that intercession is almost over and I really have to give the remaining classes and assignments my all. Let's all hope for the best!

2nd Essay Due
Wow! The midterm self-reflection essay really made me think on how hard I worked, and if I have even worked hard at all. It is surprising that intercession is almost coming to an end and so much more material has to be taught and on the other hand, we have definitely learned a lot already. The material we have learned can help us all in our everyday lives. It shows that organization is not only useful for writing, but in our everyday activities.
Jan. 05. 2012
Today we covered quite a lot on online. I had to do two chapters that includes Exemplification, and Analysis by Division. Exemplification means to provide vivid examples and illustrations about something that may be taken from personal experience or from outside sources. We should use examplies that are vivid, specific, and representative. Analysis by division is usually used when you need to explain how something works or exists as a unit. When you write analysis by division, you should break a larger, more complex subject into smaller ones that make the subject easier to understand. Both chapters were helpful, and those would help improve my writing abilities. Tomorrow we will take our second test. Let's not cram for the test!
End of third week
Tomorrow we will be taking our next test and I am so psyched at how fast this intersession has gone by. Today our midterm self reflection essay was due. We had a lot of forums to reply to and many things have been happening in this class. I believe we all did a good job at doing our part in this class. We all deserve to pass. One of the passages really made me realize that I too am living on a melting pot of cultures. i should probably take advantage of that. Anyways, exemplification is one of the most common use and effective in the writng forms. I find it very true because I have use this type of writnig form almost all my life.

01. 04. 2012
Today we covered exercise 11 in Chapter 7-Descriptive Narration. We read the passage “Yearning for love” by Chantra Shastris. It was kind of depressing because the writer was in a deficient situation. I think I would not accept an arranged marriage. Also we took our first test today. Also we covered Chapter 10- Process Analysis. There are two types: directive and informative, in process analysis writing. Directive process analysis explains how to do something by giving directions for the reader to follow, and informative process analysis explains how something was done by giving information. When you write a process analysis, you should break down your topic into stages, explaining each so that your reader could understand the process.
Today was our first test, and I hope all of us will pass. It was good for us to check if we understand the subject that we learned before.
Today was our first test, and I hope all of us will pass. It was good for us to check if we understand the subject that we learned before.
Hanging On
Hi everyone, it was nice seeing all of you again face to face. In today's lesson, we covered some of the remaining topics of Chapter 7 and then jumped onto Chapter 10 - Process Analysis. Once again, we read over a short essay and that author's Writing Process Worksheet. Looking over the worksheet almost daily, helps us embed the information into our brains so that we won't forget about the three stages of writing. In Chapter 10, we learned about the process analysis writing, where it has two types: directive - explains how to do something, and informative - explains how something was (is) done by giving information. The basic stages of the process analysis are preparation or background, steps or sequence, and order. In directive process analysis, the first stage is preparation where you list the materials needed for the process and discuss the necessary arrangement. Informative process analysis begins with background or context. The second stage is steps or sequence where the actual process will be presented. Lastly, is stage three the order is usually in chronological sense. In preparation for writing a process analysis, listing as a pre-writing technique is very useful in organizing your ideas.
I hope everyone did well on the test today! Gear up, we are having another one on Friday!

Big day today
Today we read a passage called "Yearning for Love" by Shastri Chantra. The passage was very sad because it deals with disappointment. I don't think I can accept an arrange marriage. We also took our test today and I hope we all pass. I know we read the material and studied for this test. I know we all did good. Right? Lets not doubt ourselves.
Hello 2012
Goodmorning everyone, I hope you all had a great New Year's weekend! It's finally 2012, and we're starting the first week of it by going to school. Yesterday we had an online class session where we had to discuss about Leah's essay, and the importance of descriptive narration. In Leah's essay, she used the Writing Process Worksheet which allowed her to get a smooth start on her paper. As we all know, the first stage of the writing process is pre-writing, which will help us gather our thoughts and ideas in the subject of our paper. In Leah's case, the pre-writing technique helped her look back on her experience in the sweat lodges, in doing so she can write her draft smoothly without any blockages. An important thing to keep in mind while writing your paper is developing a clear thesis and being aware of your readers. You want to write your thesis statement in a way where it is not vague, too broad, or too narrow, and to start off your essay with a good introduction so that you can lure readers into your subject. The second subject that we had to discuss was descriptive narration which is a type of writing where one describes a situation or an incident in a very vivid and illustrative manner. The two types of writing - descriptive and narrative - are always connected to each other. You can never write a narrative without describing the scenes of the incident. Narratives are spoken or written accounts of an incident or event, and is composed of five parts: the situation, conflict, struggle, outcome, and meaning. The typical point of view in writing a narrative is usually in first person where the author is the main character and is telling the story. The other type is third person, where the author is speaking from a distance, or it may be a summary of a historical or past event. Most important aspect in writing narratives is the order of events. Descriptive writing is where you writing by using your five sense: sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste. The three types of description are objective, subjective and emotional description. Some techniques in descriptive writing are by emphasizing a single point, diction, and establishing a perspective form which to describe to your subject which positioning the details for coherence.
Well, later on today we will be meeting again, not online, but face-to-face where we will be having our first test for EN100! I hope everyone studied, good luck!
01. 03 ★2012★
Today we discussed about Leah’s paper and descriptive narration on online. First, Leah’s paper was good. I think she did well on the writing stages, especially at the stage three. I could feel the writing process worksheet is very resourceful as I reading her paper. Also, I realized that a descriptive and narration are always associated. There are five parts in narrative patterns: Situation, conflict, struggle, outcome, and meaning. The description is likely to be either objective or subjective. It was also an interesting online class, and I am nervous because of the first test in intersession.

3rd Week and it is 2012!
Today's online session was alright. However, I am still getting the hang of things about the online course. It totally rocks, but I sometimes forget. Anyways, Leah's paper was very interesting. I love the fact the first strategy she used to start off her paper was freewriting. This book has been very helpful. It is our third week and tomorrow we will be taking our first test. I wish you all Good luck on the test.
January 3, 2012 2012 2012
The online session today was very brief. We had to go through Leah’s paper and describe why the writing process worksheet is resourceful. The paper was very amusing to read and it was good because it gave me some detailed information about improving my writing skill. Then, we had to describe about narrative descriptive. A descriptive and narration are always connected. You need a descriptive because without it, you would never describe something without relating it to something else, especially to a story or a narrative. There are five narrative patters, which include situation, conflict, struggle, outcome, and meaning. Description is the use of words to represent the appearance or nature of something. Your description may either be objective or subjective. Objective presents the subject clearly and directly as it exists around the realm of emotions. Subjective is also concerned with clarity and it may be direct, but it conveys a feeling about the subject and sets a mood while making a point.
